Screen To GIF is a highly intuitive application for generating highly customised animations by recording the current display screen. The program features multiple options for an individual, such as adding text strings or sepia effects.
The application records the current display screen and supports webcam image capturing, saves each screenshot as a frame and allows users to edit these pictures before generating the output file. One of the very nice features of this tool is that the built-in “Editor” is very powerful and allows for a lot of user-customisation. Short text descriptions or captions can be inserted. A grand function is that users have complete control over the display timers. One could, for example, create an animation that displays a certain message for just a few frames.
Importing or exporting frames is also supported, which means that familiar images (BMP, JPG, GIF and PNG) can be inserted into the newly created animation. The program is highly flexible with all the necessary image modification tools and allows users to adjust their screen recordings by adding frame-by-frame crop, rotate and flip effects. Users that find these options to limiting should also know that Screen To Gif can add sepia, pixelate, blur, negative, colour and grayscale filters. And, if all else fails, a “Free drawing” option exists to emancipate users' imagination wholly!
An exciting option is the “Speed modifier” which allows users to speed up or slow down their animations. It is a perfect method of blurring out irrelevant parts of the animation! Screen To Gif is packed with functionality which casual and advanced users will find very pleasant. There are plenty of features to add particular flavours to output files, and the clean interface is well-suited for the job at hand.
- Record screen and save directly to a gif looped animation or a video;
- Pause and continue to record or start over by discarding the recording;
- Move the window around to record what a user wants; it stays on top;
- Add Text, Subtitles, Title Frames, Borders, Watermarks, Drawings, and much, much more;
- Crop and Resize;
- Remove frames that do not want;
- Select a folder to save the file automatically or select one before encoding;
- Add the system cursor to recording;
- Very small sized and portable (uses a settings file under the AppData folder) executable.

Bug fixes:
What is new in version 2.14.1:
- Added FFmpeg as an optional encoder for Apng;
- Updated the German and Russian translations.
Bug fixes:
- A message about a missing FFmpeg instance was not interactive;
- When loading images, if those images were not in the correct format, the app would not encode properly as Apng;
- There was an issue with one of the numerical input fields not working as expected (with numbers being typed).
What is new in version 2.15.2:
- Updated the Russian, Italian and Dutch translations.
Bug fixes:
- The Apng export option was not working properly, the transparency and the repeat mode were broken;
- When selecting a folder to save a Apng file, only the extension *.apng was being displayed (the extension *.png was left behind);
- The keyboard shortcuts for the recording were not working when in full screen mode.
What is new in version 2.15.1:
- Updated the Dutch and French.
Bug fixes:
- The FFmpeg/Gifski integration was not working;
- Some minor visual tweaks.
What is new in version 2.15:
- The algorithm that analyzes each frame, looking for pixels changes, is now a bit faster;
- You can now add basic shapes. This feature is still experimental and there's more shapes to be implemented;
- You can now export your project as a PSD file;
- Updated the French and Russian translations.
Bug fixes:
- When opening the app via the "Open with" context menu, Gifski and FFmpeg were not being found (if they had a relative path);
- Also, it was fixed some other issues related to selecting the FFmpeg/Gifski files when the previous path was relative;
- The app could crash when editing key strokes of a project;
- It was impossible to undo the "Remove duplicates" action when using the option "Don't adjust";
- Also, because of that bug, when applying the "Remove duplicates" action with other option than "Don't adjust" and later applying with that option, the app would crash too;
- Board recorder: When trying to discard a recording, the app could crash;
- With the new recorder UI, when changing from selecting a Region/Window to selecting a Screen, the Accept/Retry/Cancel UI was appearing when it should not;
- Small adjustments with the new recorder UI for high DPI screens.
What is new in version 2.14.1:
- Updated the Spanish (Argentinian) translation.
