It founded in 1998 by firm ParaType department section. The department was formed in 1989 by former employees of SPS (the Department of typesetting fonts) Institute Poligrafmash. Start ParaType font library put favorite fonts of the Soviet period - "Literature," "ordinary new," "Chopped Magazine" and others licensed from Poligrafmash. Fonts own design, issued in the early years of the department under severe deficiency, immediately became extremely popular.
"Pragmatics," "Newton," "Edgware Gothic," "Parsec" are considered classics today, and continue to be actively used. "Edgware Gothic," in particular, is used in modern Russian banknotes. In 1990 he signed a contract for ParaType fonts now cyrillization International Typeface Corporation - a leading US company in the field of digital font design - and thus contributed to the emergence of an official in the Russian legal western fonts with professionally done in Cyrillic.
All fonts with support for Cyrillic, including the Russian language, except Airy Pictures, Barnaul Grotesk (Medium Italic, Medium Regular), Futura New (Demi Oblique and Regular, Heavy Oblique and Regular), Pragmatica (Bold Oblique and regular, Condensed Bold Oblique ? Regular, Condensed Medium Oblique ? Regular, Extra Medium Oblique ? Regular, Medium Oblique) ? Quartal (Extra Medium, Extra Medium Italic).
ParaType was established as a font department of ParaGraph International in 1989 in Moscow, Russia. At that time in the Soviet Union, all typeface development was concentrated in one rather small group which belonged to a state research institute, Polygraphmash. It had the most complete, and the only, collection of Cyrillic typefaces.
ParaType became the first privately-owned type shop in many years. A license agreement with Polygraphmash allows ParaType to manufacture and distribute their typefaces. Most of Polygraphmash staff designers soon moved to ParaType.
ParaType applies a multilingual approach to type design. Most of the fonts of the last years were developed from the very beginning for wide varieties of alphabets. ParaType’s standard character set covers Western & Central European, and Cyrillic languages. The ParaType collection also contains Arabic, Armenian, Georgian and Greek fonts.
