To restore a backup of files or folders, or a Windows image created with Symantec Ghost, we will use a recovery disc.
As practical example we will install "Windows 8 64 Bit Sweet Dreams Ghost" coming ".gho" format to give it the following steps:
- If you do not have the file "Ghost.Win8.Sweet.Dream [x64] _byDorin.gho", download. If you already have it you can put it in the root directory of C: drive or USB to locate it easily.
- Burn the ISO to a CD or USB drive bootable.
- Download recovery disc (see links at end of post).
- Boot the computer from the CD or USB created above.
- After starting the Ghost 11.5 will run and we will:
- Click on OK.
- Click on Symantec > Local > Partition > From image.
- A browser will open where you locate the file ".gho" you want to restore. Click on the file.
- A window "Select source partition from image file" will open, select the partition you want to recover (if you have more than one partition in the image), in this case click on the only one there (Windows 8).
- In the next window "Select Local destination drive by clicking on the number", click on the target disk where you want to apply the recovery.
- In the next window "Select destination partition from Basic drive: x:" (where "x" be the number of the selected disc above), click on the partition where data recovery is effected.
- And finally will get a warning window "Proceed with partition restore? Destination partition will be overwritten permanently." click on "Yes" and began the restoration of the image of Windows.
- Click on OK.

I recommend using a 8GB USB for installation because it does not fit on a 4.7 GB DVD, and add the file ".Gho" in the root directory of the USB easily found.
