I think you might have a few problems and not just one, but let's start from the beginning, checking for the serious one. You said your files were corrupt? What did you try exactly and what error message did windows show? If your system files are corrupt, Surrogate error might be the least of your worries.
To explain better, for mass corruption to happen that indicates a driver problem (unlikely) or a hardware problem and more specifically one or more of the RAM, Harddisk or Mobo. Don't get me wrong, not trying to scare you, and maybe it will turn out to be nothing important. There are ways to test for all 3 and find if and what is wrong but we will need more and specific info.
So what did you do when you say reimage and what was the error message(es) and we will go on from there.
Edit: Can you share a screen of the Event viewer when the error pops (Event viewer--->Windows Logs--->Application).
