when I try to register a new account with fake/bad email, I get this:

This is 1st time running v11.5, had 11.4 installed prior.

Screenshot shows the input in email address field is an website address with https:// you'll need an email address with @ in there.

It's working well for me, including the map module.
Be sure to read "readme.txt" because the activation method is not the same as most other Lightroom versions on the site.

11.4.1 worked well, this one would not cooperate for me - yes i read the text file carefully.
Interestingly when i uninstalled it, it said the installed version was 11.4.1, even though i did a clean install with 11.5.
gave up trying to solve and reverted back to 11.4.1 installation

Tried creating a few accounts, but I'm not getting sent the 2-factor code when I try to log in, so Adobe's not letting me get past the login screen to start the trial.

Sounds like you were in a trial period which has just expired.
My installation is still working properly even though the 7 day trial period ended some time ago.
As I said before, be sure to read "readme.txt" carefully because the activation method is not the same as most other Lightroom versions on the site.

There are older 2022 versions on TeamOS that are easier to install and activate but they may have other issues. For example the Map and Book modules don't work.
Do your own research. Look at all of our Lightroom 2022 offerings and read ALL of each thread. Then make your own choice.
