Hello Sir,

I bought a new laptop ( Lenovo Ideapad ) with DOS operating system. I downloaded Windows 10 pro RS1 disc file and converted to Bootable USB using Power ISO. Later I started to boot my laptop but I got strucked at choosing where to install my windows , because it is showing an error message " Windows cannot be installed to this disk the selected disk is of gpt partition ". After watching few videos I somehow accomplished installing windows. ( SHIFT+ F10 at the start of installing windows, Running command prompt, Diaskpart and erased my drives). This method erased the entire hdd.
Before that I changed some settings like Under boot option I selected Legacy First rather than UEFI.

1. Is it advisable to change that setting ?
2. How to prevent the above problem?

I never got such problem for my previous laptop

THANK YOU

UEFI > Means SecureBoot feature. which supposedly makes the OS more secure against some certain types of malware. etc! UEFI is more secure, but in its default "secure boot" mode it takes longer to boot, and will not let you boot from a CD/DVD. But if you have UEFI, you can turn the secure boot option off, and that will allow you to boot from a CD/DVD.

Legacy > using legacy boot gives you much better flexibility. Beside this no need to worry about malware. TeamOS provides best and clean OS'es so set up boot option to Legacy.

Well, i have read everything you have mentioned above. Now lets do this straight: Set Booted Function to > Legacy. now read below:

1. If you converted GPT to MBR by cmd option (Diskpart) then follow on step 2. Recommended

2. If you did not converted GPT to MBR yet then follow on step 3.

Step 2: All you need to follow this tutorial (Rufus recommended) Download Rufus (Given at Tutorial) Run it and follow the given guide with screenshots.
- Do not change any option. just do it the same mentioned at screenshots and create bootable usb:
- After Done. unplug and plug usb into usb port > Open usb > make sure bootable usb is ready: It will looks like this:
- Now keep usb plugged and restart your Laptop. during restart > Press Boot key (it would f2, f4, f9, del) And you will see Boot from Usb option.
- Now hit it and you will be good to install OS just in few minutes without any headache.
Note: If you follow on tutorial and create usb the same way mentioned at screenshots then hopefully it would work in both directions. UEFI+Legacy. all you need to press boot key and it boot up.

Step 3: If you're GPT converted HDD then same i mentioned at top, all you need to you follow Tutorial:
- Only one single option would be get changed here. See at first Screenshot and change this option.
''Partition scheme and target system type'' Drop down the menu and select > GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer < and Do not change any other option after that. Follow on the tutorial steps above.
- Create bootable usb and make sure it's done. now restart laptop/system > Press boot key > And you will see usb option to boot from it. That's all.

Good luck and kindly report back after trying this method. :)

Thank you so much! and trust me when i've reading your problem i've excited inside because i knew the right solution :)
I'm glad everything fine and works properly. Good luck and have fun!
LOL you have forgot to LIKE my post. hehehehe

About your question: Yes you can use that option ''fat32'' But for small Old HDD partitions. But if you have 500gb/1TB/2TB or above then stick to NTSF.

Further: FAT stands for File Allocation Table and FAT32 is an extension which means that data is stored in chunks of 32 bits. These is an older type of file system that isn't commonly used these days. NTFS stands for New Technology File System and this took over from FAT as the primary file system being used in Windows. See the table so you might easily understand.

SaM has already added everything....

just wanted to add cherry on top by sharing some info about MBR and GPT......

these 2 are partition tables.... that mean, inode structure is maintained here. Windows uses the old 'msdos' partition table (also known as MBR) while other DOS and Linux Based OS use GPT partition Table. GPT partition table is a better version of MBR as , the MBR partition table can't be extended above 2TB..

so, that means if you have 1 TB internal hard-disk and then you connect an external 2 TB hard-disk in windows having MBR partition table, you would be able to access only the first 1 TB space of the hard-disk and the rest would be unreachable eventhough the space would be shown just as many people have in their windows properties, available 8 GB RAM, usable 5.62GB..... but the limit of GPT is much more...

so eventhough GPT is better but as we are bound to use windows for many purposes, we have to compensate by using MBR partition table...

so, when you got your laptop with DOS, the default was GPT but you converted that to MBR so that windows can use the inode structure of the hard-disk and can access data :) :)

i hope you understood something as it's a bit technical but worth it :)
