W10Privacy can display standard Windows 10 security settings that can be activated as well as deactivated within the program. It prevents Windows from tracking user browsing habits and many other types of information by merely disabling the settings user do not want. Privacy is vital for all persons since nobody likes to have their movements tracked every step of the way. The same goes for computer users, no matter the operating system they are working on.
W10Privacy is one of the many specialized applications that focus on removing all tracking elements from user PC, even if the user is not a tech-savvy user. The utility comes with a user-friendly graphic interface, and all its available functions are neatly organized into tabs, each featuring a relevant title. Moreover, W10Privacy is a portable solution, which means that the user does not need to install on the PC to enjoy its feature-set. Despite its name, it can also be used on Windows 8.1 computers without any issues.
Users can start by disabling location details about its device, turn off SmartScreen Filter or prevent programs from using advertising ID for experiences across apps. Additionally, users can stop other software utilities from accessing user calendar entries, messages, account info (such as name or picture) or radio stations. W10Privacy can also help users disable speech recognition or the option to display the password while also preventing the camera from being used on the lock screen. When it comes to blocking telemetry and data collection, user set this application to block IP addresses of known Microsoft telemetry servers through the HOSTS file or firewall rules.
Edge is the new default browser of Windows 10, and the user can alter some of its options to protect online privacy. As such, users can disable saving passwords or form entries, block third-party cookies or prevent SmartScreen Filter from protecting against suspicious downloads and websites. OneDrive can be stopped from running at startup, and it can also be removed from the File Explorer sidebar.
How to use it:
While the design is effortless, there are also three colors to spot the three main settings easily:
- Green - Recommended is a conservative mode;
- Yellow - Conditionally recommended - probably the best bet but looked over the choices;
- Red - Restricted - think of this as geek mode. Better know what the user is doing. Must Run as administrator.
What is new in version 3.4.0.0 (Released on January 18, 2020):
- W10 Privacy is now available in the form of an installer. This means that the software installed on a regular system can also be uninstalled. The program settings of an "installed W10Privacy" are saved in the AppData subfolder "W10Privacy" of the respective user (usually C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\W10Privacy). Of course, the program can still be operated in a portable mode (this can be selected in the installer). The basic idea for the implementation of the installer, the necessary scripts as well as the new graphics & icons were given to me with the kind support of PeterK. provided (this is for the first-class Winamp skin " Quinto Black CT " known;
- Extensive revision of the German texts;
- Added an option to disable notifications about the Windows diagnostic data level when logging in for the first time or when changes are made;
- Added a (further) option to deactivate the advertising ID for apps;
- Add two tweaks, which can be used to switch off some unnecessary information messages;
- Minor improvements: Among other things, e.g. B. the program start somewhat accelerated if the determination of firewall settings in the program is deactivated.
- The check for updates to the W10 Privacy software was initially removed from the program; it did not work satisfactorily.
- Add two more deactivatable tasks;
- Add an application whose outbound traffic should be disabled through the firewall (DeviceCensus.exe);
- Updating the Russian language;
- Detail improvements.
- Integration of additional deactivate tasks, which are related to the Office products. The tasks are only displayed if they also exist on the system;
- Change of red color for restricted settings for better readability. Many thanks to Florin for the hint;
- Fix registry key to disable Windows 10 upgrades. Here space had crept in the key name ("Windows Updates" instead of "Windows Updates").
- Integration of the option to deactivate the task, which carries out the automatic maintenance;
- Fixed a problem that caused a bug when trying to uninstall the XboxIdentityProvider system app. Many thanks to Frédéric for reporting the problem.
- Correction/addition/update of the W10Privacy behind definable HOSTS-entries.
- Extensive customization, so that the forthcoming Windows 10 Version 19H1. From the Build-Version, "18334" can be a variety of other user and System Apps be uninstalled. Also the future Version of Windows, the Background can be configured with the functionality of additional Apps;
- Minor internal optimizations.
