VIDEO RECORD DVR

Hello everyone, i would like to ask if any of you have experience regarding DVR files, i have a DVR file and i really need to open that file to see a video record, i have restored the file with get data back, but i cant open the video content.
any one of you knows something about this?

@ALB STAR, sometimes data restorations are not 100% good and the file is unusable.
See if the DVR has the option to export or extract part of the recording to the PC. Some bring and gives you the option to choose the format.
In this way, you can convert it to .AVI or .mp4 and try to play it.

my question is, how does one capture a recording from a dvr, say it's a directv receiver?

DVR is usually a H.264 or H.265 video. Without more info about the model of the capture and/or software used we cant help. Some software uses the DAV format some use MS's DVR and some use standard mp4/mov/avi. Either way, VLC is your best bet.

Click on tools ---> Preferences and then follow the numbers as shown on the screenshot below

If H.264 wont work try a few others. After selecting one drag your files on VLC and it will hopefully work.

For both of you, you must understand that a lot depends on the kind of capture device you use. Different devices use different methods and also have themselves several options as to how to capture and/or output.
