I just bought a new motherboard and cpu. Tried doing the whole reinstall of windows 8.1 to be told that this operating system is not supported by this hardware and security updates will no longer be available etc.

I've duckduckgo'ed and found there was a fella writing a script to get around this but he hasn't supported it for about a year now.

So I was wondering if anyone else has a work around or any ideas to make it possible. I need *.1 for network sharing to my WDHDTV (can't get it going on 10) and I really don't like being forced to use 10.

Any help appreciated please.

A little confused by the post if Win8.1 installs and wont do the updates, or if Win8.1 wont even install.

If you can get 8.1 working on said hardware, I found a script that allows you to continue getting security updates on Win7 & Win 8.1 systems running the new 7th generation processors.
I can tell you to google wufuc_v1.0.1.201-x64.msi, but I cant post the link for you.

Go to "Diagnostics," and then click "Advanced Options" and select "Command Line" ... type "regedit" and press Enter, then open the file edit window in the registry ... click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and select "File ". In the drop-down menu you have to click "Load Hive" ... enter the path to "x" to do this, follow path C: Windowssystem32config, locate the system file in this directory and open it (System) ... imagine the name for the section. You can specify an arbitrary name ... in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE section, open the partition you just created and select the folder for that path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEyour_nameControlSet001servicesmsahc ... in the map find the "Start" parameter and double-click the mouse. In the window that opens, enter "0" in the "Value" field and click "OK" ... find a similar parameter and do the same procedure on your HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEyour_nameControlSet001servicespciide ... Now select the section you created and click on "File" and select " Delete x "... now close all, remove the installation disk, and restart the computer. The system should boot without any problems!

...this applies to Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10 owners!!!

that's a forced message now on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, as Microsoft is pushing people on purpose into Windows 10!

Sorry I didn't realise I missed that, I can format and install Windows 8.1, then run it without any troubles.

The wufuc_v1.0.1.201-x64.msi hasn't been supported for a year.

My cpu is 9th gen, and I don't know if that affects anything

I installed 8.1, and used the mentioned helps and all is working fine so far. Updates are working and all messages have stopped for about 12 hours.

Thankyou all, appreciated
