Hi all!

Nice to have found a place with a lot information and resources for old Laptops. Congratulations.

Now about me, I'm trying to understand what is the best OS for my VAIO NS Series VGN-NS21M. So CPU Intel Pentium T3400 / 2.16 GHz and RAM Memory Speed 667 MHz 1 x 1 GB + 1 x 2 GB (3!).

First of all i guess the best solution should be an XP and not a W7 (due to the RAM that is less than 4), and maybe a x64 insted a x86 (isn't it?).

Than I need an OS stable, very slime and fast (I'll use it mainly to download files and VLC) . Could you suggest one of those reported in the Section Operating Systems?

Thanks a lot!
Cicco

If I'm correct is it the correct name:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T3400 @ 2.16GHz or IntelĀ® PentiumĀ® Processor T3400 (1M Cache, 2.16 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)

If that is true then Yours processor's set/base is 64bit, means it can run 64bit OS at your laptop. So according to low 1GB Ram it wouldn't work normally or smoothly.
So best solution would be to use x86 (32bit) OS most likely Untouched Windows 8.1 (x86) instead of Windows 7 (x86) (Note: Windows 7 Charge more Ram instead of 8.1/10 x86. Nearly 512/530mb would be taken by Windows 7 OS)
And lastly, you can easily Run Windows 10 x86 as well at your Laptop with 1GB Ram, you can try it if it can perform good then have it otherwise you can stick to Windows 8.1 x86 or Windows xp.

Okay that was a review, now lets talk about what suits the best for your Laptop:
Try slim/thin/lite versions, windows 10, 8.1 and that would be the good and yours Laptop can perform good result/speed.

Lite Version:
Lite Version:
Recommended: Windows 7 Thin Version: or previous version

If nothing seems helpful then all you need to Windows Xp Professional Sp3 would be nice and more smoother if you give it a try. (Black edition/media center/royale ultimate all included)
kindly chose yourself what seems good check in categories:

That's all, and have a nice day!

Hello Sam!

Yesterday night i did the installation of W7 Thin edition (i.e. your recommendation) and it seems going quite well.

The boot up is not really great, but i'll try to change something to improve it.

Thanks again and see you around! ;)

Thanks for letting me. I hope that would easy to use and runs smoother. Have fun!

About boot up screen, well there is alot of tools out there to change startup screen/wallpaper/etc! you can try them. Beside that bootup screen just appears for few seconds so it won't hurt. lol
if anything above you want to examine in future, kindly post comment at my profile. :)
