Hi , basically I've have some deleted messages in Whatssapp that were sent to me, and l would like to see the content of said messages.
Google is all 2019 referencing the settings widget (which is now defunct apparently), and also pointing to the play store with its many apps,
but before l go down that road, i'd thought l would ask round this friendly bunch first.

Any help in this matter would be grateful, cheers.

When you install it, it asks you if you want to create the backup on google drive or not.
The way to find out is by pressing the three points that are located in the upper right, then choose the "Settings" option. Once you are in “Settings”, click on the “Chats” selection. Then click on "Backup"

@00china00, if you backed up and your messages are less than 7 days old, there is a method to recover them. Otherwise, there is another more complicated method that can give you good results.

Last backup is stating yesterday, but on the google drive settings below the back up to google drive is set to never..

Recover backup on Android
Uninstall app and download it again on the mobile device.
When you install it again, it will detect your backup and ask you if you want to restore it.
Open app and you will get the deleted messages (these cannot be more than seven days after being deleted, if so, they will not be recovered).


How to recover the oldest deleted messages?

Although this is a somewhat cumbersome and risky procedure, given that the latest messages can be removed; It is the most recommended to get old messages that have already been deleted from the Whatsapp.

Here what you should do on Android terminals:

To start, you must copy all the information that exists in the WhatsApp / Database folder. If you do not know where to get it, simply enter the RAM memory or the external memory of your mobile, which depends on how you have configured it from the beginning.
