I ask this because I'm very new to windows 10. With Windows 7, It was quite easy for me to turn off all the features I knew would access the net...i.e...automatic updates...telemetry etc...I've tried quite a few pieces of software to edit these settings....gpedit/policy plus...O&O shutup...spybot etc...but there's no real way of knowing except connect online and use a LAN viewer like TCPview to see what's connecting....but....I thought maybe there was a way to not connect online and still find a way to see what's connecting or what connections are leaving the PC...like a Virtual Internet Connection or a Virtual Network to watch and see...If it's possible...it still may not lead me to the conenction or connections that are still heading out...but at least I'd know if all these settings to stop WIndows 10 from accessing online are working or not

thanks

I think you can check what processes are connecting to your Network called by a program "NETLimiter" which is available here
It controls traffic of the network

Sadly it's not that easy, though as an idea its very logical. If windows won't / can't detect a live internet connection or for some reason, they cant contact the MS servers, those telemetry data won't start transmitting and therefore you won't see anything suspicious apart maybe from a small ping to the servers but you won't know why is that for. I suppose one could emulate a fake MS server in a virtual machine and a closed network so you can use MS IP ranges, but the fact that the transmission itself is encrypted, it makes it almost impossible to emulate.

I would only add to what @Gollapudi said above, to use Wireshark as it's the best network protocol analyzer out there. Its free and a google search will lead you to the company's website. Using Wireshark you can capture and see all the traffic from and to your PC. Fair warning tho, even then it won't be easy to detect which packets are for telemetry and which not, but it will be fun and a learning experience nevertheless.

I assumed that when a connection goes live...any software thats ticked to ping any server at net startup...anti-virus for updates...MS for updates...or anything else...would automatically start pinging...i thought there would be a chance to "fake" a net connection...or mimic one to test out whats leaving the PC...I'd never heard of such software...I guess there's a reason why...it doesn't exist lol

it sure would be handy though wouldn't it? :)

thanks for the software recommendations
