I'm losing my mind. I can't get this update to work for me. It keeps wanting activation. First time I didn't even get that far because it wouldn't even start up after I clicked Turbo Tax. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. I've clean installed it three times using revo uninstaller. I have no ideas.

Some users did not even reinstall, they just applied the update and copied the new dll to the indicated path, overwriting the previous one.
Have you been able to overwrite the original dll, replacing it with the fixed DLL? This is usually done as an administrator.
I’ve heard of instances where some user computers won’t allow the overwriting of the patched dll, probably because they are running Windows Home version, and they’ve had to reboot those computers in safe mode to successfully replace the Intuit installed dll with the fixed dll.

I think it let me but I never tried safe mode so I guess I'll try that. All I know is I submitted my sons fine and then it updated, wouldn't let me submit so I tried to do what you said just apply update and dll but that didn't work so I tried clean install multiple times and that hasn't worked. Turned off firewall as some said but that didn't work either. So I will let you know if safemode works.

Okay so it sort of worked in safe mode. I got it downloaded and working but now it says needs to update state. I tried the trick but when I try to do the update it says it's already up to date and won't let me go any further. Any suggestions here?

Same here. R18. Tried all suggestions here. Have a version that will let me in without activation but won't update even with the god update. Very frustrating. May try and create a VM and see if I can do it clean through there. Will let everyone know. Anyone else that has any updates, please post.

Oh yea... And I cannot get TurboTax to even open.

Problem with the states [Fix]
Download state from another machine and copy over the state folder to the original machine.

The previous user could not open TT and then he could solve it.
Read the advice I have published in the thread and the comments of users who have been able to make it work.

Where do I get the state download from?
Install TT on another machine and the free state is downloaded through the program itself (you will not be charged for that).
If you are not familiar with downloading states and using TT, see tutorials on Google and YouTube.
Read the discussions in the Intuit forum: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/update-and-state-download-not-working-update-progress-window-just-stays-frozen-is-there-another-way/00/293175

I do not live in the United States, so I cannot do the tests and share screenshots or instructions.

Wait ....
Some comment that it is not necessary to uninstall.
And some have uninstalled and then can't make it work.
Before uninstalling, try manually updating and then overwrite the dll with the last published.
If it doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall.

LOL, 2018 TT had 57 revisions. Just copy R18 sub directory 32, forms and \ProgramData\Intuit\TurboTax\TY19 tp a holding directory, update to R18, then copy the forms and TY19 back

Opps, after manual R18, TT says it needs to reboot your computer, to "ensure TT updates take effect", OUCH they are onto us!! Backup your registry BEFORE R18. SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE....

This didn't work for me. I HAVE to be missing something. I am so lost. It worked fine with the last update now its in an infinite state loop I can't get out of. I don't even need to file state I did it through the state but I can't even open up TT because it wants to update state and then says already up to date.

No worries, just save your FORMS folder, uninstall and reinstall.

After R18 reboot, everything is good and working. TT now says there are TWO Component version of Intuit.Ctg.Wte.Service.dll. 2019.41.14.207 and 2019.41.18.210 odd since there is only one in my directory

Couple tips

1. when you are first loading program and it keep asking to update and then closing a workaround for the first time is to open task manager look for inuit 32 update and manually close it then the program will open and you can change the update status.

2. when getting state you have to download it and remove the folders like stated before the forms folder, then uninstall it and reinstall it the tip is use the latest r18 dll or whatever then make sure your off line first I kept making this mistake where I would open it then turn off net when program was opening. Net off then change dll after moving forms folder in then let it open disable auto update, then connect to net and download state it should not close turbotax if you do it right.

This been the hardest year going to be thinking about using another program next year thanks to all you guys in the forum this has been great im glad ive joined this community cant wait to explore it more.

No offense but all you did is repeat what everyone else has said. I have tried all this and it did not work. I do agree with you about it being the hardest year but your explanation on what to do did not help me at all.
