How To Solve IDM Fake Serial Number Pop Up 2019/2020

IDM-Fake-Serial-Key1.png

I have read many methods to eliminate that annoying pop up and none works definitely well.
If I download a PDF, RAR, ZIP, EXE, etc. everything works correctly and the pop up does not appear.
But if I use the download button that appears in the videos or in some audios, that's where the pop up comes back.

I will only share 2 methods, with the clarification that for the latest version (6.36 build 1) only the first work.

Method 1 Edit Host File

Go to the path C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and edit the host file with the notepad by pasting this code at the end of it:

Code:
127.0.0.1 tonec.com
127.0.0.1 www.tonec.com
127.0.0.1 registeridm.com
127.0.0.1 www.registeridm.com
127.0.0.1 secure.registeridm.com
127.0.0.1 internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 www.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 secure.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 www.secure.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 mirror.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 www.mirror.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 mirror2.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 www.mirror2.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 mirror3.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 www.mirror3.internetdownloadmanager.com
127.0.0.1 star.tonec.com
127.0.0.1 rev.dyxnet.com

TIP: If at any time the pop up returns, check the host file.
Malwarebytes edits it without warning and adds the '#' symbol before the lines of code to cancel them.

Method 2 Deleting and renaming files

1.
Go to the IDM installation path, by default is C:\Program Files(x86)\Internet Download Manager.
2. Make a copy of the idmBroker file and paste it in the same place.
3. Remove the IDMGrHlp file.
4. Now rename the copy of the previous file (idmBroker - copy) as IDMGrHlp.

If you know any other method 100% tested with the latest versions of IDM, do not hesitate to share here.

You must run text edit program as adminstrate to edit system file like host. Start menu, right-click text program that you use like maybe Notepad or other, then chose Run as Admin.

In Windows 10, if you try to edit your hosts file, you’ll probably be able to open it just fine, but when you go to save it, you’ll get an error:

hosts-file-save-errror.png

Hit the start menu or press the Windows key and start typing Notepad.
Right-click Notepad and choose Run as administrator.

In Notepad, click File then Open… In the File name field, paste the following path in:
c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

hosts-as-admini-640x452.png

Now you’ll be able to edit and save changes to your HOSTS file.

If you can not save yet, make sure hosts isn’t set to Read-only
By default, hosts file is set to Read-only which means that you can open it, but you cannot make any changes to it. In order to fix this issue, you need to turn off Read-only mode for hosts file by doing the following:

  1. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.
  2. Locate the hosts file, right click it and choose Properties from the menu.
  3. Go to Attributes section and make sure Read-only option isn’t checked.
read-only-1.jpg

4. Click Apply and OK to save changes.

If you have been able to edit and save the host file here, do NOT read more.

If you continue to have problems, change the security settings for hosts

If you’re getting “Access denied” while trying to change hosts file, you might not have full control over the file, but you can easily change that by following these steps:
  1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.
  2. Locate hosts file, right click it and choose Properties.
  3. Navigate to the Security tab and click Edit button.
hosts-edit.jpg

4. You should see the list of users and groups on your PC that have access to hosts file. If your user name or group is on the list, click it and make sure that it has Permissions set to Full control. If your user name isn’t on the list, click the Add button.
5. Enter the user name or the group name in the Enter the object names to select field and click Check Names and OK.

6. New user or group will be added to the list. Now you need to select the newly added group or user and check the Full control option below.
7. Click Apply and OK to save changes.

It was not necessary to delete any lines. The host file is edited and all are added at the end.
