The virtual desktop is a largely underused feature of Windows 10. PC users who know how to use the virtual desktop and power users mostly use the virtual desktop feature.
For the uninitiated, the Virtual desktop is a very common and well-known feature in Linux distributions. Virtual desktop makes it possible to create multiple virtual desktops on your PC without having to create additional user accounts.

In simple words, you can have more than one desktop on your computer with the help of Virtual Desktops. One can use this feature to organize apps and app windows. When you open a virtual desktop, you will see only apps and programs that are in that desktop. For instance, you can use virtual desktop 1 to open all your work-related applications and use the virtual desktop 2 to open social media apps.

The virtual desktops let you switch between apps open in different virtual desktops as well (can turn this feature off as well). Besides that, you can move open apps between your virtual desktops.

Up until now, it was not possible to rename virtual desktops in Windows 10. We had to either live with the default names or use a third-party application to rename the virtual desktops.
Starting with Windows 10 build 18963, users can rename Virtual Desktops without using third-party applications. This will help users easily differentiate the open virtual desktops.
